What is a .ian file?
Each document you open in Teza — together with your highlights, ink, post-its and video notes — is saved as one .ian file. It's a standard ZIP archive, so your work is never locked in: rename it to .zip and you can open it with any ZIP tool. Note that .ian files are not encrypted, so don't share ones that contain private notes.
Where are my notes stored?
On your device, inside the .ian files in the app's private storage. Teza has no servers and no account — we never see your documents or notes. If Android backup is on, Google may keep an encrypted copy for you; the app itself never sends anything anywhere.
How do I get my work out?
Open the document and tap Export. You can export to PDF (with real annotations other readers understand), EPUB, Word, Markdown, plain text or MOBI — notes included. You choose where the file goes.
How do AI keys work?
Ask AI uses your own key for Google Gemini (free tier works), Anthropic's Claude or Moonshot's Kimi. You paste the key in Settings; it's stored in your device's secure keystore (Android Keystore), never in .ian files, exports or logs. Before anything is sent, the app shows you exactly what will leave the device, and nothing is sent until you tap Send. Android backup leaves keys out, so after restoring on a new device, enter them again.
Is there a paid version?
Teza is free, with an optional tip jar. Teza Pro is coming soon — AI, quizzes, flashcards and YouTube search with no keys needed, plus iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows — with a 7-day free trial.
When can I get it?
Teza for Android is coming soon to Google Play — a closed test starts first. iPhone and iPad are coming soon to the App Store.
