Summary
Teza does not collect, store or sell your personal data. There is no account, no analytics and no advertising. Optional tips are handled entirely by Google Play.
What stays on your device
- The documents you open, and your highlights, ink, post-its and video notes. They are saved in .ian files in the app's private storage.
- API keys you enter in Settings. They are stored in your device's secure keystore (Android Keystore), never in .ian files, exports or logs.
- A list of recently opened files.
Teza has no servers. We never receive any of this.
When data leaves your device
Only when you ask for it:
- YouTube search. Your search words and your own YouTube API key are sent to Google's YouTube Data API. Google's privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Playing a video note. The video loads from YouTube in an embedded player. YouTube may set cookies or collect data under its own terms: https://www.youtube.com/t/terms
- Exports and sharing. When you export, you choose where the file goes.
- AI assistant. If you add a Google Gemini, Anthropic or Moonshot key, the text you choose to send is sent to that provider under their terms, only after you tap to confirm. The app shows exactly what will be sent. On Google's free Gemini tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products; use a paid key, or another provider, for material you need to keep private.
Tips
Teza is free. You can choose to leave a tip through Google Play. Google Play handles the whole payment: we never see your card or payment details. As with any Google Play purchase, Google gives the developer limited order details (such as the order number, the item, the price and the country) for accounting and refunds. A tip unlocks nothing and is not linked to anything you do in the app. The app remembers on your device that you have tipped, so it stops asking. Google's privacy policy applies to the payment: https://policies.google.com/privacy
The Google Play Billing Library that makes tips possible is part of Google Play services, which may send diagnostic information about the purchase to Google.
.ian files are not encrypted
A .ian file is a standard ZIP archive. Anyone who has the file can open it with a ZIP tool. Do not share .ian files that contain notes you want to keep private.
Backups
Android's automatic backup is on. If you have backup turned on for your Google account, Android copies your library (your .ian files and the recent-files list) to your Google account, encrypted by Google, and restores it on a new device. We never see it. API keys are left out of backups: after restoring, enter your keys again in Settings.
Android limits automatic backup to 25 MB per app, so a large library may not be backed up in full. Export or copy important .ian files to keep your own copy. You can turn backup off in your device's Settings → Google → Backup.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone.
